Big 6/8 are terrible bets
Hey there. I just kinda wanted to see your thoughts on something here about the Big 6 and Big 8 because nobody talks about it. The scenario is a tiny bankroll of $100. The strategy is a Don't Pass followed with a Big 6, Big 8 as a hedge. So let's say 10 on Don't Pass, and 5 each on Big 6 and Big 8. At the come-out, 8 roll combinations lose, 3 combos win, and box-cars push for DON'TS. After come out, with minimum bets on Big 6 and Big 8 there is now $20 in action (versus 22), but really only $10 at risk if the point rolls. Now I have 6,7,8 covered and doing alright with odds against outside points. If the point is a 4 or 10, I'm thinking of putting those extra 2 chips on hard 4 or hard 10. So now only 2 rolls beat me.
Another related question that is not addressed: a player can "place" Big 6 and Big 8 on his own, but can they pull it down on their own too? I'd kinda like to just inform the dealer I'm pulling my Big 6 and Big 8– but I don't know if it's allowed.
