Hi guys! I’m Eric from CanadaCasino and today, we are going through a beginner’s guide to Texas Hold’em Poker. Texas Hold’em Poker is the most popular poker variant in the world at the moment and in this video we are going to illustrate the rules of the game and the various stages.
To begin with, Texas Hold’em Poker is a game played between all the players sitting at the table. The game starts when each player is dealt 2 cards and 5 community cards are placed in the center of the table. The goal in Texas Hold’em Poker is to put together the best 5-card poker hand possible and each player must strive to form a combination as follows:
1. 2 from your hand and 3 from the pool.
2. 4 from the pool and 1 from your hand.
3. All 5 cards from the community pool.
Not all hands can win at Texas Hold’em Poker, however, there are certain combinations to watch out for and we’ve listed these below in order of least important to most important:
1. High Card – 1 card of a high value
2. One Pair – 2 cards with the same value
3. Two Pairs – 2 sets of cards with matching numbers
4. 3 of a Kind – 3 cards with the same number value
5. Straight – 5 cards in numeric order
6. Flush – 5 cards of the same suit
7. Full House – 3 cards of one number and 2 cards of another number
8. 4 of a Kind – 4 cards of the same number value
9. Straight Flush – numbers in numeric order of the same suit
10. Royal Flush – cards of the same suit from 10 to Ace.
Since Texas Hold’em Poker is a casino game there is some betting involved which comes with its very own set of rules and stages as we shall see down below:
Stage 1 – The game makes use of a dealer button which moves one place to the left after each game. To the left of the dealer button, there is the small blind and to its left is the big blind. The small blind will put in a half bet, while the big blind has to place a full bet. These are mandatory bets designed to get the game started. Once the small blind and the big blind have placed their bets, the player on the big blind’s left must make a choice to either fold, call or raise. The same rules apply to every other player sitting at the table.
Stage 2 – The Flop. In this stage of the game, the dealer deals one card for himself and flips 3 community cards. Once it is completed, the second round of betting will commence starting with the small blind and following the same rules of the first round of bets. In this round, each player gains an additional option to perform with their hand, the so-called ‘check’. This is used by players who are ok with their hands but do not wish to bet any more money, and thus pass the betting to the person to their left.
Stage 3 – The Turn. The 4th community card is dealt on the table and each player must decide whether to fold, call, raise or check.
Stage 5 – The River. During this stage of the game, the dealer will draw the 5th and final community card. This is followed by a final round of betting, which follows the same rules as the previous betting rounds.
Stage 6 – The Showdown. Once the final round of betting has been completed it is time for each player to reveal the 2 cards in their hands. The player with the best hand wins and walks away with the pot, which is all the bets that have been placed during the game.
