I think it's potentially an outdated "term" but i'd say that "widening our opening range in late position due to perceived tighter ranges in the blinds" has less of a ring to it! Like everything in poker, the key is to understand why you're doing something / deviating away from your normal assumptions / ranges and understanding how that impacts your EV 🙂
I feel like you have been spying on my brain. It's interesting how the meta changes in poker and other games overtime. What worked then will lose you money now if for the most part the field has adapted to beat it.
It's kinda of like when you tubers say "I check back here for 'deception' ". I feel like that's a similar scenario where it's not the right way to think about poker. You want to check back with strong hands to protect your checking range.
