They have a lot of tubular flowers and they would attract a lot of hummingbirds. When I was growing up in Victoria B.C. my dad had a lot them growing in his garden
some say you have to cool the seed in the fridge for about a month. ive never done this. i plant seed every january in pots and there up in a couple of weeks. keep in a bright widow and let them get some sun on nice days.last years seeds i planted are big plants in quart pots now ready to set out this spring. good luck
From my experience – plant in seed starting mix, then transplant after danger of frost (per package) was just fine. My plants are going on 13 years old and have done great in both NW Ohio (zone 5-6) and central NC (zone 7).
I'm from Southern Africa. Those are not red hot pokers. A red hot poker is a cacti with sharp thorns on the "leaf". You can't handle them without gardening gloves.
