The goal of the game is to draw cards that will bring your total as close to #9 as possible. Face cards are worth 10 and all others are worth the number they are assigned to. 9 is the highest number possible. This means that if the total of your cards is 10, your score will be 0. Also if you have any other total and a 10 card is drawn, you score will not change.
The dealer and the player are both given two face up cards. If either the dealer or the player have a total of anything less than 6, they will receive a additional card. So if you have a 5 and you get a 10, your total would be fifteen but thats over 9 so your total would still be five. If you have a 5 and your next card is a 7, your total would be 12 but that is also over 9 so your score would be 2.
Possible Bets
The only choice the player has to make is where to place the bet. Once the bet has been placed, all hitting and standing rules are predetermined and only need to be known by the dealer. The three options for betting are the Player, Banker, or a Tie.
Baccarat Strategy
The banker has 45.8 percent chance of winning.
The Player bet has a 44.6 percent chance of winning.
A tie happens 9.5 percent of the time.
Now there is a slight advantage to the banker bet. There is an over one percent better chance of the Banker beating out the Player. To even this out the casino pays out the Bet five percent less than the Player bet.
Special Rule
In the event of a Tie, all Banker and player bets are pushed, and are returned to the better. This means that while, in the case of the Banker, there is 45.9 percent chance of a winning outcome, the better will have a 48.9 % chance of making money. That same logic applied, there is a 48.8 percent chance to make money with the Player bet. For a non-skill oriented game, better odds can not be found.
Banker Is Not the Bad Guy
For some people it can feel like the Banker is the Casino and and Player is the better. In all reality a bet for the Banker is not working against yourself. The better and the Player are not the same and three bets might as well be labeled bets 1,2, and 3. Find a betting strategy that works for you and stick to it.
