Whichever hand gets nine or closest to it, wins. The first thing you need to know about Baccarat is the card values, which differ tremendously from the norm. In Baccarat card’s valued 2 — 9 keep their original value, but, face cards, namely King’s, Queen’s and Jack’s as well as the 10’s are now valued as Zero and the Ace card is valued at 1. In Baccarat, it is also impossible for the hand to reach double digits as only the second number counts. If, for example, two 5’s are dealt, the value is Zero and not 10, if you are dealt two 6’s, the value of the card will be 2 and not 12 and if you’re dealt two 7’s, the value of your cards will be 4 and not 14.

Playing The Game

A game of Baccarat will begin by placing a bet, either on the banker to win, the player to win or for the game to be a tie. Following the bet, the banker will deal two cards, first to the player and then to himself. The value of the cards dealt will determine if another one is dealt or not. If the players hand totals 6 — 9, the player will automatically stand. If a hand totals 8 or 9, it’s known as a natural and is an automatic winner unless the banker has the same value cards at which point the game is declared a tie. If the players hand totals 5 or less, it will be dealt a single card, the banker will only receive another card if the value is 0, 1 or 2 and will always stand on 7, 8 or 9.
