Here’s a super-easy blackjack strategy that has a 1% house edge under typical Las Vegas playing rules (six decks, dealer hits soft 17, doubling allowed on any two cards, and blackjack pays 3:2). The actual house edge varies with the playing rules in effect.

Here is the complete strategy in words:
o If you have a pair of Aces or 8s, split them. Don’t split anything else.
o If you have a 2-card total of 11, double down always.
o If you have a 2-card total of 9 or 10, double down if the dealer has a low card showing. A low card is 2 through 6.
o If you have a soft total, where an Ace card counts as 11, always hit soft 17 or less and always stand on soft 18 or more.
o If you have a hard total of 12 through 16, look at the dealer’s card. Against a dealer low card (2 through 6), stand on 12 or more; never bust. Against a dealer high card (7 though Ace), hit until you get 17 or more; mimic the dealer. Always stand on hard 17 or more.
That’s the entire strategy.
If this strategy is too easy for you, go to BlackjackCalculation.com and learn the “Simple” or “Great” strategy, which lowers the house edge even further, down to about 2/3 of 1%. You’ll learn some additional doubling and splitting decisions, and a few exceptions to the Super-Easy hit-stand strategy rules.

Questions? Leave them in the Comments section below, and I’ll do my best to answer them.
Somebody asked “Why would I want the house to have a 1% edge?” It’s better than the house edge for almost anything else, including the Player bet at baccarat (1.2%), Pass bet at craps (1.4%), roulette (5.2%), slot machines (2%-25%), or the state lottery (50%). If you want to gamble with a 0% house edge, do so with your friends, and stay away from the casino or state lottery.
