Carnival Mardi Gras 2023 Craps
I only had one session at the Craps Table on Sunday 2/5, and it was unsuccessful ($460), why?
– it was a marathon session from 10:40 am lasting until my hard stop for dinner at 5:00 pm. 6 hours plus is a ridiculously long time to be standing at a table, fatigue had to come into play, although I was not particularly tired or noticeably uncomfortable at the end of it. I did not drink any water (bad) or alcohol (good) and I subsequently did not need or take any breaks. I probably held the dice between 45 minutes to an hour over that time because I was not gambling on anyone else and the table was pretty full a good portion of the time.
– I was only ever up 1 unit ($25) and was down between 4 to 8 ($100-$200) most of the session. I lost two or three 3 unit ($75) wagers on the 4 or 10, hit several points, and had some come out 7 and 11s.
– As the time passed 4:40 pm I got the dice and knew my time was limited before I had to stop. I was at $350 at the start of the hand, I had a CO 7 or 11, $325. I had a Point of 6 or 8 and hit it, $300. I hit two more Points or CO 7 or 11s and was down to $250, I hit one more point and was down to $225. I decided to go all in with a No 4 for $200, I hit the 4 and was down to $20. I put it out on the DP and a 7 rolled after a Point of 10 was established, I walked away with my $40 and my tail between my legs.
What do I think I learned?
– I am not betting on others, either because they are attempting to impart some influence on the dice that would change the random probability, or because I do not want to be “that guy” that is betting against them.
– If I truly believe other Shooters are potentially imparting some influence on the dice then I should also try to impart some influence, on the CO at least, and use a Hardways set to try and reduce the number of 7s and 11s on CO.
– I need to limit my play to empty tables, tables where any other Shooters are passing the dice, or only play on digital machines where I can play every hand.
– Playing with “scared money”, i.e. knowing I do not have a replacement bankroll is not the right mindset to have going into a session. I probably went on tilt at the end of the session trying to recover when I was also fatigued and limited on time.
– Playing when I have a hard stop does not give me an opportunity to try and grind back a win, arguably 6 plus hours is not sustainable with fatigue being an issue.
– I should have walked away when the table filled up regardless of current bank roll. This was difficult for me, to walk away down when I was confident I could get back to even when I got the dice.
I need to learn and adjust to a live table setting vs my practice table.
This strategy does not play well on a live table where people are generally rooting for other Shooters on the light side.
People:
Met another Engineer at the table, Anthony I believe. Nice guy and we had some nice chats. This trip was his first time on a live table after learning about Craps and doing his own math on the best ways to play. He did ok overall and I hope he came away with a positive and profitable first experience. He told me about one of Jeremy’s strategies, the $66 inside l think. I will have to script it in WinCraps and see how it plays over many sessions.
Played alongside autors Dianne and Gregg Stroud for a bit. Dianne was tracking the players rolls. When I asked Gregg about the tracking he said it was to find repeating numbers for different players. I told him streaks and patterns do emerge but they can only be seen in hindsight and not used for betting on in the future. A little later he mentioned being on a Craps Cruise with a couple other people on the table and the light bulb came on in my head, David Povlitz from Heavy’s Craps Crew! They were looking for signature numbers on Shooters that had a consistent toss. I did not really see any Shooters that maintained a consistent enough toss to wager on, but it was interesting to watch, and they were a very nice couple that were loving and supportive of each other, very positive individuals.
All-in-all a negative session that I hope I can come away with some positives from.
Until the next game Craps Fans, may the Dice smile on all your sessions.
