I have taught craps for over a year and I keep trying to find effective ways to teach it to make my knowledge stick to the students. For some, they get it right away, for others, it's a very slow process, and for others, they just don't get it no matter how many times I try to explain it.
I would like to compare notes. For example, I like to start out by describing the three categories of bets a player can make. Contract bet, working bet, and one-roll bet. I then associate a color or some other common marker they can see. Then I apply those marks to the actual felt so that they can see the betting areas with the colored marks in them and see what type of bet it is. It's still overwhelming to some students though. One student just flat out filmed me teaching her so that she could review it any time she wanted. But I digress…
For those who think craps is a hard game, they're right. It is, but it's also one of the most exciting. It takes the most number of players of any table games and most everybody at the table is routing for the same result. When that result happens, everybody is cheering and high-fiveing one another as well as winning money.
