Hey guys,
Today I’m going to show you how to get started with GTO poker strategy.
How to learn the GTO software and start using the solvers without spending any money.
Coming up next.

There are 3 main GTO programs (also called solvers) on the market right now. I’ve used them all and they each have different pros and cons. In future videos I’ll go into depth with each of them, but for now I want to jump right into one of them and show you how to get started.

We’re going to use GTO Range Builder (or GTORB). It’s a good one to start with because you can use it right out of the browser. As you get more advanced, I’d probably suggest switching to one of the other two, standalone varieties.

GTORB is also nice to start with because it has a very graphical interface which I think makes it easier to understand at first. The solutions are represented by visualizations of the decision tree.

Another thing about these tools is that you can use them for free, as long as you’re solving situations that occur on the turn or river. If you want to do flop calculations, then you have to pay for them.

From another perspective, solving poker hands gets much more complex when you start on the flop. Given the fact that you have two unknown cards still to come, and three full rounds of betting that could happen, the average tree is exponentially bigger than decision trees on later streets. Whereas the river is going to be your simplest tree to solve.

This is why I would suggest starting with river spots to learn GTO. 1) The situations are less complex and 2) You can use the tools for free.

One more reason the river is a good place to start is because you can apply GTO equations like 1-alpha, if you’ve heard of that. The equations actually match the solutions. Whereas on the flop, the equations tend to break down, and you must rely more on what the software tells you.

So for today, I’m going take a hand from my database and walk you through how I’d go about using the GTO solver to figure it out. It might be a good idea to pick one of your own hands and follow along with me. Pause the video and try it for yourself in GTORB. That’s going to be the best way to actually learn this.

  1. I would say those ranges are not correct. Biggest problem with GTO is that ppl dont really focus on opponents ranges, take any other player and his range is much different to what you would play in the spot. You would have to have your mirror self range for GTO to really work. you can apply ranges only after big enough sample and known tendencies of the villain. If you miss any of that you are burning money. GTO can be applied in certain situations and with double care. You need base for your strategy which would be simple and lower the variance, after getting some of the information you can start applying GTO. And vs GTO players you have to really change the approach and adjust your range. I mean if you are smart and play around with your strategy optimalization you don/t need any of those.

  2. I guess A7s is more of a call than TT not only because you block a set but also because you block T9.

  3. I personally think all this fancy doubletalk is to get you to doubt yourself and confuse you. Next thing you know your losing your ass.

  4. Then to make things worse…..youre playing against people who NEVER fold because they think theyre gus hansen…….it all goes out the window

  5. In online, you have 20 seconds to think and in the casino I play they give 10 seconds to act. Well this is very very easy to do !

  6. If you run lucky and play good range is useless. If you raise with aces and get called by 3-5 and the flop comes A-2-4 then 7-J you will be a loser. If you never hit flush draws or straight draws in big pots you lose. Luck is HUGE. Game theory works against guys playing gto. If you are playing against any 2-5 game players in the world you better hit your draws or you will be broke.

  7. ok, so we are trying to predict what a human poker player will do and then decide what our reaction to that should be, this is all assuming both payers are paying the same GTO strategy and not derailing from it, witch is impossible with tilt factor and all other factors that alter players mood and feelings.
not to mention that on the regular low to mid games that are normally played by the average or majority of us ,this would never work in my local 1/2 or 2/5 game , in this games 99% of players don't apply any of this gto stuff so at the end all goes back to hand reading and player tendencies in my opinion.
what type of player , what position, what range of hands/ on the flop narrow down hands that he would continue with(again player tendencies related to the board) turn narrow again and adjust betting accordingly on the desired outcome, and so on. i could see how this would work if two players agreed to play the same way for the same amount of time making the same decision base on GTO so at the end it all balances out if you play long enough or if not then the lucky one will win.
