How do you play better than your opponents in live poker, like at a casino or in a home game or private game?
The first important concept to know is that live poker is characteristically softer than online poker (but not always!) which means you have easier opponents to play against and a lower floor of what ‘better’ means.
You still have to play well enough to beat the rake, but generally speaking live is going to have more people interested in the gamble (especially live poker in a casino!)
Another key poker concept to remember is that very few people are naturally good at the game of poker.
Plenty of people have natural poker skills or a natural ability to improve at games like poker, but very few are born and able to figure out the actual intricacies of poker strategy.
If you really want to be better than your opponents you need to do some sort of studying with a base poker strategy and poker learning tool.
Poker books or poker training courses offered by poker pros or poker coaches are a great place to start.
You want to start with a base poker strategy that you can add your thought process on top of and not simply try to think your way through every poker hand.
If you’re building huge chip stacks already but still looking for how to improve at pot limit omaha, no limit hold ‘em, or poker in general, Phil Galfond is here to teach you how to think like a professional poker player.

What’s up Phil I used to only play cash I’ve starting to play tournaments only played in 7 tournaments and I cashed in 3 of them I placed 6th in the last one I played. You wanna stake me in a tournament lol
The most efficient way to learn is to get a personal coach IMO, share detailed HHs with him and be fully transparent with mental game/ roll/game selection / lifestyle etc.
Other forms of improving are sometimes appropriate but generally a lot less effective and efficient
Defo need a good coach though !
So when I 3bet 4x the loose EP open in the CO w A4s and the SB cold calls w 55. 3way flop of A45. The small blind played so much better than me 😂
I watched a lot of old school WSOP videos and the old school cash games throughout uni. Played cash games and would stake myself £200 an evening. I did this 12 times and walked out +225 a visit profit on average. Manchester and Edinburgh gentings. Solvers not needed just solid understanding of the game and that players are more bluff heavy than you realise and trust instinct
Any book recommendations for cash game player?
i am pretty dumb so i doubt i can beat any poker
