Knowing how to play your King Jack right is important at the lower limits because this is a common hand and it is sometimes a bit tricky to play.

In this example I discuss a hand where we have King Jack in the big blind in a 1c/2c cash game.

I talk about the best ways to control the size of the pot while out of position and maximize our value when we hit a good hand.

Make sure you let me know how you play your King Jack in the comments below!

  2. As a Yank I will say we wouldn’t even bother pronouncing the name. So appreciate the kindness of the Canadian who took the time to try.

  3. Some Questions. (I apologize my English level…. I'm big Fan of yours πŸ™‚ )
    1. If Villian's 2barrel betsize is 50~60% of Pot, Same Play?
    2. If Villian's 2barrel betsize is 75%+ of Pot(But his AF is 4+), Turn Call is Optimal play?

  4. I think that callijg with KJo in the big blind is ok, further more i would bet the river for perhaps 1/2 pot for putting your opponent in a hard decision.

  5. Fully agree on everything but the river. I would probably lead the river in this spot. I had a feeling villain would check behind on the river and while I'd maybe prefer going for the check-raise against good aggressive players who I have some history with, in my experience people miss so many river value bets at least up to NL25 that when playing against an unknown at NL2 we just get way too many checks behind by an Ax, even AK, when the river brings the possible trips out there. It looks to me like people are always afraid of being up against the nuts and getting trapped so they decide to play it safe and take a free showdown. Now of course by leading we take away villain's chance to bluff his busted flush draws but I think that's a much smaller part of his range than the hands he could call a lead with.

Also, if we do decide to check the river I don't necessarily like the idea of a check-raise either since I don't think we're getting called by a lot of worse hands. Though it could certainly be seen as conservative I'd probably just check-call mostly, depending a bit on bet size. Against a similar small bet as on earlier streets I'd probably go for a smallish check-raise of around 2.5x simply because it just looks to me like a thin value bet by at least a somewhat strong Ax that could still call a check-raise if we make it cheap. Facing a healthy 2/3 to full pot sized bet I'd prefer just calling. At the smallest stakes I've seen most people only betting boats, busted flush draws and trips here and there's not too many worse jacks that I can comfortably assume that villain would open here preflop. QJ and JT would be fair but J9 beats us and I think with J8 we're making too many assumptions.

Now I haven't played NL2 in a pretty long time so my reasoning could be flawed by treating NL10 and NL2 too similarly but I just see way too many checks behind than bluffs or value bets with worse.

Love your content Nathan, keep 'em coming!

  6. Hey Man ! Where can I send you a hand to review it ? πŸ™‚ I lost more than half of my stack with KK and i want to know where I have mistaken . Please help ! πŸ˜₯

  7. Hey, nathan! Nice work. Do you mind telling us your current AF? I am a regular at nl5, but my winrate is very low (3 bb/100 in 100k hands). I really think that I'm doing a solid TAG ABC poker, but realized that my AF is just 2,05. I'm wondering if it should be bigger.

  8. I find this is happening quite a lot at the moment people calling every raise and expect a check raise on the river only for them to check.Β
Would the best way to be to bet a 3rd of the pot to make shore a payoff incase this does happen ( The check check ) ? or check taking the risk to see the other persons range for future reference ? ( But they also see your hand ). Great video.

  9. Cool, thank you πŸ™‚
I will drop to you NL16 hand πŸ™‚

Do you plan live play video for your channel?
