Poker Strategy: Open ended straight draw makes it when the flush gets there

Poker Strategy Info And Source:

Here, the caller takes a small sizing when checked to on the flop with his open ended straight draw. He rightly check back the turn to take a free card when the next to act player calls the flop and makes his straight on the river. However the last card also completes the flush and he is lead into. Can he raise?

  1. 1 2 rec player here it's just a call, the only thing he calls jam with here is a flush. Only in 1 2 would someone try to slow play bottom set, then finally bet when flush and straight come in. Lol did not see a set of 3s coming.

  2. As a 1 2 reg, slightly player dependant but id jam. Flushes would bet more than 50 into 70 and there are many twopairs and also lower straights

  3. Villain didn't play it that badly. He was probably going for a check-raise on the turn, but didn't get a bet. He/she set their price on the river, was changing top pair hands, and blocker betting too see the cards if the hero had something better. Villain lost the minimum.

  4. i dont like the flop sizing…why not bet enough to get some fold equity especially against 3 players? you have jack high..wouldn't you really just like to see everyone fold, at least this shallow? people are going to call with all kinds of stuff and then what? i'd bet at least $28 or so there myself, maybe even like 35 or 40

  5. Clear call – caller is bring results oriented because he saw a set. Even if we assume that villain plays all his sets/twoapirs this eag that got to river (TT, 88, 33, T8s, T7s), that's 15 combos that hero is ahead of, and hero is behind more combos of flushes that would play this way from a typical 1/2 calling range from the bb (Axs, Kxs, Qxs, suited connectors) which violates the rule that a value bet/raise must be good more than 50% of the time to be profitable (there are more combos of hands beating hero that would call than hands that would call).

  6. Bart, i disagree completely with you saying this is just a call when the 7 of clubs hits, i think this is a jam all day long, people at low stakes play horribly and there are a lot of hands that would bet $50 here on the river, all, sets, all two pairs and even some hands like A10 and K10, people just play horribly at low stakes, so when you only can lose a maximum of $85 more then i'd jam here because i think there are just as many hands that are not flushes that would bet $50 here, taking into consideration also that the BB completed which he would do with a lot of combo's of hands taking into consideration that he closed the action and also was getting a great price so to think his only holdings are clubs here is not really realistic and whilst at higher stakes you ask yourself what would you get called by if you raised its not so applicable at $1/$2

  7. What about a check back on flop given the shallower stack sizes and flush draw on flop? I also jam river tbh as played I feel a flush would bet more substantially, that bet size felt almost like a blocker
