There are a few key things to remember when playing deep stack poker, whether that’s in a poker tournament or in a poker cash game.
Having position increases in value.
When you are short stacked it’s a lot easier to get into a spot out of position where you can end things on the turn by 3-betting preflop, c-betting flop, and shoving the turn.
If you’re playing deeper, shoving the turn in the above example might mean shoving for 10x the size of the pot.
Not often a sound strategy!
Overall this means you’re going to have to play more rivers and more large pots out of position.
Your poker game plan changes when you’re in position: you get to open wider, to call or 3-bet wider, and get to call 3-bets wider if it’s from out of position.
Remember, if you normally 3-bet a tight range and are playing vs someone 300+bb deep you will need to adjust or risk getting out played in a massive flop.
Get that deep poker experience through play (online poker micro stakes/small/low stakes can be good for this!) and maybe check out some poker training videos covering the topic on one of your favorite poker coaching sites (have you heard of RunItOnce 😉?)
If you’re building huge chip stacks already but still looking for how to improve at pot limit Omaha, no limit hold ‘em, or poker in general, Phil Galfond is here to teach you how to think like a professional poker player.

just 3b 8-10x when you're playing oop with hand like JTss, 78ss even more like premium pairs you don't want them to price in to call with suited connector it's disgusting when they flop trips against u, unless if you're against few players whom have 1000bb deep, you can also call their 3b with hands like pocket five (flopping set is extremely valuable) to disguise your strength of the hand
hand like Queen rag or King rag suited can be valuable too but don't caught in your head when you're on flush draw cause you might always against NFD
If you three bet hand like K2ss and flopping 22x against villian who only plays premium it's sweet spot to overbet to try to GII, the thing is tight fish don't fold their overpair
Love the info Phil 👌
I spent a lot of time playing in a live 5-5-10 PLO game were stacks would get extremely deep 1000bb+ protecting your stack becomes extremely important in those situations. Playing more of a pot control style. Knowing when to just call with top boat or the nut flush on a board with a possible straight flush. Or if you are raising those hands, raising them with the intention of raise folding vs someone you know will never 4b the river without the actual #1. Sounds nitty I know but it’s just the reality of the situation when playing that deep. Remember the goal of value raising isn’t just that you think you have the best hand. You have to think you have the best hand and that you can also get called by a worse hand. Weighing that risk to reward is extremely important. Making a blunder in a 2000bb pot might be the worst feeling you can experience as a poker player.
Appreciate the help man booked my biggest win ever so far with you're help ! And only getting into playing seriously thanks alot
