Jason Koon is widely considered to be one of the best tournament poker players in the world. He has the ability to make huge calls and huge folds in some of the largest poker tournaments in the world. In this video you will find him make a huge hero call on a $25,000 Final Table during the High Roller Series as hosted by PokerGO. Will he be right?

Too many players believe that when they are 20 big blinds or less they only have two options: Fold or All-In. This poker hand will highlight the new school of thought that there is far more playability with short stacks that allow you to chip up successfully without risking your tournament life.

You should look to have hands that can comfortably fold should you min-raise pre flop and face a shove. These type of hands with often contain an Ace as this is a great card that blocks your opponent’s re-shoving ranges which will often be Ax type hands.

When you are deciding whether or not to bluff in a poker hand you must always ask yourself; what logical bluffs do I have? If you don’t have any logical bluffs then it might be wise to avoid bluffing!

When you have roughly the same amount of chips in your stack as there are in the pot you should often be splitting your bet sizes into two: small and all-in.

  1. What would YOU do with K♥ 9♣ on the river?

    Your Stack (BB): 1,100,000

    Their Stack (HJ): 920,000

    Pot: 880,000

    Board: J♦ T♥ 6♠ 7♥ 6♣

    A) Check

    B) Bet 200,000

    C) Bet 440,000

    D) Bet 920,000 (opponent all-in)

  2. At 2:00 when you say "raised", it would be clearer to say "opened". Many of us would take "raised" there as meaning that someone later 3-bets you.

  3. Ignorant ramblings of a cash game player who rarely plays under 200BBs: I think it has to be a check or all-in with K9. JKoon's going to have very few full houses because sets and 76s are mostly betting turn; 98s probably doesn't check back that much either, but a big bet is going to put his capped range in a tough spot, while he's just going to call super wide against a small bet. Combo selection, I'd much rather bluff with an unpaired straight blocker than a FH blocker because FH blockers still have SDV. Now are we bluffing all unpaired 9x and 8x? Maybe, maybe not, hard to know for sure. I'd definitely rather not have a heart in my hand though.

  4. Shove all in, when Koon checks behind on turn, his range is capped at 10-x, or A-x. Not putting him on a Jack of any sort, Gierse has a lot of jacks in his range of calling preflop, check calling-the turn. Nothing gets there when the board pairs on the river.

  5. Two things for me, and I know nothing, a bet on the turn would have killed the hand and the river bet is too thin, very fishy, it didn't play out like a value bet.
