These 3 reasons are one of scores Nathan could have picked. However, they all come under the act of NOT turning theory into practice. This is the number one reason players are not (the 5%) winners. As the saying goes, poker does not care how you feel. It was only when my mind flipped a year ago from playing how I felt (despite already knowing most of the micro/ low stake theory, into a thinking player (and giving up alcohol and poor sleep) did I become profitable. $14k+ in a year with only a third of the playing time I would have liked. The great thing about poker is that though players know the above is true, even then will very few flip that swtich. Took me 6 years of playing to do it.

I only call a rock, or "nit" with the nuts, or close to it! And I only call I don't raise cause they will usually fold.

When you first start getting into to poker, the "I need to see it" instinct is actually a good thing, because it lets you understand the rest of the hand and why it progressed the way it did. But the moment you're playing for real money, you've gotta give that feeling up. Replace it with a tendency to make bigger bets when you have the nuts. You'll be surprised how many players call your river overbet just because they "needed" to see it 🙂
