As long as you make sure to plan and set up contingencies with the understanding that your life and your schedule are flexible you don’t really have to overly worry about ‘balance’ in the traditional sense.
You shouldn’t necessarily worry about making sure to play any specific ratio of hours or making sure to only play poker during one range of hours, at times it can be good to be fully obsessed with poker and take advantage of that energy and at times you should completely detach to get a break and refresh.
The base idea is that no matter what you are doing you should be planning ahead, if you’re feeling energized to play but don’t set a plan to study you might end up playing for weeks at a time without actually improving or sharpening your game.
If you’re enjoying poker study but not setting hours to play poker you’re missing out on a core part of learning poker, practicing the new poker skills you’re learning through study.
Making sure to set rules for yourself so you’re not being guided by your heart’s desires is important, poker may be a skill game but there is a lot of potential variance involved if you let your heart guide you!
If you’re building huge chip stacks already but still looking for how to improve at pot limit omaha, no limit hold ‘em, or poker in general, Phil Galfond is here to teach you how to think like a professional poker player.

Thoughts on how variance and volume out weight luck in poker.
Disagree with this 100%.
Being a professional poker player, especially one who plays live as their main source of income, is more akin to someone working on the road (traveling) than someone who works a normal 9 to 5. While it is quite possible to make a living as a live poker professional doing the standard 9 to 5 (or 2pm to 10pm), it is much more beneficial to ones bottom line if their hours and days are more flexible.
While I agree that one does need some "down time" and "balance" to be mentally (and physically) healthy, a poker life is much more different from a "normal" career and what works for one professional could not work for another professional.
This was a great tutorial. I feel like I can do it myself now.
How much time should i spend studying vs playing? And how is the best way of studying? (Besides watching your videos offcourse)
