Great insight Alec. The other night I was playing in a 4 table tourney. I made a good call against an all-in bluff but the bluffer went runner, runner to take the pot. Another player at the table (good player) turned to me and said, "good call". I said thanks, licked my wounds and went on to the next hand. Other (not so good) players thought he was being sarcastic but he was being sincere. Just to restate what you've said in the past, many times in many ways, try to make good decisions and not be results oriented. Good decision making pays off over time! It's about math, discipline and knowing what your skill level is relative to others. And keep learning how to improve your game. As a side note, I've also found that many players who complain about getting their aces cracked are often slow playing them and letting others catch up. And then they complain they got sucked out on or unlucky. The cliche is true, aces are good for two things. Winning small pots and losing big ones. Thanks again Alec.
One of the best. Enjoy opponents who believe it is all luck. Had to get over worrying about bad beats maybe 60 years ago and it sure makes poker more fun and way more profitable.
I play $1-3 games with $50 min buy-in. I always buy-in for the min. Because if I lose than it won't affect my bankroll as much and put me in depression, where If I win, i play even tighter so I most likely won't give it back. I'm happy with $50 winnings and come back another day. I learned my big lesson by losing $10,000 in online poker. But I'm up in live, not much but I'm greatful to learn my harsh online lesson and I quit playing in bigger games just in case of bad beats. I will prolly nvr play bigger than $1-3 money games because the sharks are waiting and I'm borderline semi-pro only cuz I'm good at the the math aspect, but I know my game has more flaws than most so I hardly ever bluff so I like to swim with the fish and hope I get lucky.
If there’s a saber tooth tiger, you have a time machine. You’re rich. You can play 5/5 all you want.
hey can you please get a better mic? It's hard to hear when the sound echoes in your room.
Masterclass
I would like to add that I play poker not to make a living. I know sometimes I will be ahead and sometimes I get sucked out on. I keep track of all my sessions every time I play. Then at the end of each year I write down how I did. My point is one day one week one month does not bother me. As long as I having money coming in I do not get distracted by one bad day, week, or month. If you get down to the point that you feel bad about yourself then you are taking this to personally. You may have to quit for awhile to get your perspective back. Its really only a game.
Great video alec!
Thanks Alec, great advise!
Thanks for the vid Alex, it's comforting to hear someone else lay out what I feel when I'm being results orientated. I have deep mindset problems to work on and it's prevented my taking poker seriously (put in the work). Feeling cursed, seeing patterns in the cards generated that aren't there, feeling ripped off etc. Being more mindful about my tilt; it's entirely emotional so I tell myself I got it in good, did my opponent do what I wanted them to do…and that has been helpful.
Anymore mindset relating to variance type videos would be appreciated.
PS; I get dealt 6-4 more than anyone on the planet son! Guaranteed.
