Antes, just like the blinds, are money that is non-voluntarily put into the pot to encourage and increase the action.

Without any sort of involuntary money like a poker ante or poker blind in the pot there would be no nuance to poker strategy beyond waiting for Aces and going all-in!

Ante’s and blinds add incentive and a reason for people to get involved in poker hands beyond the nuts.

If more antes and blinds are added to the pot there is more incentive to steal the pot so your poker play needs to widen.

A properly executed loose and aggressive poker strategy can print money in a game with high antes and blinds.
