Learn Texas Holdem Video Source & Info:
Hi internet, it’s me, Dominic!
Today we are talking about betting hands in Texas Holdem.
Poker is one of the most popular and fascinating card games ever made. Most people play poker Texas Holdem, as its most known version of poker, and the rules are quite simple.
Poker is one of the very few casino games where the winning outcome is more about skill than luck.
The first step to becoming a good poker player is being able to evaluate your hand correctly.
Evaluating your poker hand is the first and most important decision to make. You join a poker table, get your 2 cards, and then what? Well, you certainly do not want to make the most common mistake which most beginner players make, which is – playing way too many hands.
As a beginner, you are better off staying on the safe side and playing only your best hands. Learn the difference between good and bad starting hands.
A-A is the best possible starting hand you can ever get, but let face it and be realistic – this will not happen very often. Then you have high pairs such as K-K, Q-Q, J-J, etc, followed by suited connectors such as 6-7 in the same suit, 4-5 same suit, etc. High pairs and suited connector such as for example 4-5 are best-starting hands, the reason for the pairs is quite obvious and then with suited connectors such as 4-5, you have a good chance of making either a flush or a straight both ways, up and down, which gives you good chances to win. Avoid playing cards such as K – 9 offsuit or for example 2 – 8 offsuit. With those cards, you might be able to see the flop cheap but after the flop, you will more than likely have to fold.
Another thing that will have a massive impact on the range of cards played in the round is your position at the table.
When you are in a middle or late position, you can play a wider range of cards. Why is that? Well if you are playing a game against 5 other opponents and you are in late position, you are given the advantage of seeing what your opponents are going to do first. If most of your opponents folded or checked, you can use that to your advantage and attack, depending on what hand you have at that moment.
Don’t be afraid to rise or re-rise when you get a good poker hand. It is recommended to always rise when you have a good poker hand to avoid limping and showing weakness. Don’t be afraid to play aggressive, observe your opponents and use their weaknesses to your advantage. And remember that you are not going to be a winner every time, and even the best of the best players lose.
Just take your time, work on your strategy, and don’t forget to have fun!
