The more equipped you are with knowing how to place your bets and when is the best time to do so, the higher your odds are of winning. This video is for beginners in poker who do not yet fully understand the terms betting and raising. These are the most basic and some of the most confusing terms in a game of poker. In this video, I will dissect these terms and review the differences between the two, as well as explain how to use them as part of your basic betting strategy.

When betting in a game of Texas Hold’em there are five actions you can take. These actions include:
fold
bet
check
call
raise

I will explain each of these actions along with how to use them.

During the game, betting can only occur post-flop, on the flop, turn or river. You only have the option to bet when you’re first to act post-flop, or when the opponent checks. Once someone has already bet, you have the option of folding, calling or raising.

It is important to always state your bet. If you fail to do so, you will not be able to change the number of chips you place in the pot.

Remember, in poker, the first action is the binding action.

Why bet? There are many reasons to bet in the game of poker! You bet to protect your hand, to convey that your hand is stronger than your opponents, and to bluff!

When you are feeling confident, you can raise the bet. This can be done after a player has already placed their bet.

Betting is a huge component of the game of poker, therefore understanding the art of betting is very important! Pay attention and soak in as much information as you can so you can start earning loads of money from the exciting game of poker.
