Hi guys, Dominic here!
This episode features Omaha Hi-Lo which is a variation on Omaha Hi – which is actually a variation of Texas Hold’em.
Omaha Hi-Lo is an interesting variation of poker that is becoming increasingly popular. It is known as the “fun uncle” of Hold’em and is definitely worth trying out!
The origins of Omaha Hi-Lo Poker are not certain. Some say Omaha Hi-Lo poker was invented by a legendary poker player, Robert Turner. Others say it was Bill Boyd, an executive at Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas who brought it into a casino setting, calling it “Nugget Hold’em”.
In North America, the term “Omaha” can refer to several poker games. The original game is commonly known as “Omaha High.”
A high-low split version called “Omaha Hi-Lo” is also referred to as “Omaha Eight-or-Better” or “Omaha 8.”
In Europe, there is a version of Omaha Hi-Lo that is usually played with pot limit. This is known as Pot-Limit Omaha or “PLO.”
There is, however, a version of Omaha Hi-Lo, no pot limit, that is played in some casinos. This is rare.
Omaha Hi-Lo differs from Texas Holdem in that:
– Instead of two hole cards, you are dealt four.
– You can only use three communal cards and you must use two cards from your Holdem.
– There are two ways to win – with a high hand and/or a low hand. If you win either, you will receive 50% of the pot. And yes, it is possible to win both the high and low hand earning you the full 100% of the pot.
I will show you a run-through of poker to explain the other aspects of Omaha Hi-Lo so that you can gain a stronger understanding of the game.

It doesn't matter that A2345 is a straight, it's still the nut low in PLO8
Is there anywhere I can get charts for calling shoves for plo8?
Never heard of separating bets into two piles. We always just chop up the whole pot (if necessary) at the end.
